DARIEN — flashed a big smile at the woman who would be his date for at least the next five minutes.

The conversation then started with a topic they both felt most comfortable with — their children and grandchildren.

Stamford resident shared that she had raised four children. Apruzzese, 83, a Norwalk resident, has two boys and a girl, and six grandchildren.

“Are they all grown up?” Duffy, 89, asked.

“Of course, can’t you tell?” Apruzzese joked, pointing to his white hair.

“Oh, they’re not in a kiddy car?” Duffy asked, playing along.

Minutes later, a bell rang and Apruzzese said his goodbyes and went on to the next table to meet his next speed-dating partner. He greeted her with the same smile and enthusiasm.

The event, organized by the and Inc., paired two dozen people between the ages of 70 and 90. It was held at The Waters Edge at Giovanni's and was hosted by of 1490-WGCH.
